I thought that the book Abigail and the North Pole Adventure by Taila Carmi was going to be a good book just for younger kids, but after reading it I think that is a great book even for me! And I am happy my mom put it in our collection! The story starts with Abagail's grandparents coming over with her bicycle, which happens to be magic! She remembers her past adventures and can't wait to sneak away and have another! After the adventure is over Abigail gets to keep a present given to her to remember the friends she made.
My favorite characters were Abigail and also a little boy she met names Siku because they were nice enough to help a cub off a piece of ice that I learned was really called a ice floe. I enjoyed reading about Abigail on her adventure because I thought she was very thoughtful, smart and adventurous. Abigail found herself in a few situations that she had to think quickly about and she was very much a hero for feeling she could do something about the helpless situation someone was in, was in.
My sister who is 6, really enjoyed the bright colors and drawings in this book and I love to draw pictures about characters I see. So as soon as I finished reading the book I drew my favorite part! I am really happy that I got a chance to read Abigail and the North Pole adventure and I hope my mother gets the other 2 books Abigail and the Sahara Adventure and Abigail and the jungle adventure. I also hope that more books come out! Oh, and if you like this book of one of the other books Tali Carmi also has a series called Terry Treetop that is about a boy and his nature adventures. Both series are available on Amazon Kindle right now for a low price.
I enjoyed reading this book with my daughters 6 & 8. It was vibrantly colored, the illustrations were beautiful and it was well written. Although the main character was a female, I didn't find that the book leaned more to girls which I saw as silent plus to pass on. I also liked the thoughtful heroism role that Abigail took on in her adventure and saw her as likable and thoughtful. The author and illustrator worked together nicely and the book was well thought out. I liked how the book was able to work in facts that were relevant to the story and lead the story by the hand from one adventure to another. I thought the Main character and other characters in this book were realistic and caring. I honestly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to anyone who has a child who likes animals, adventures, fantasy or nature.
